JailIt is hopefully a sign of things to come. Last night, a multiracial, multigenerational crowd of 3,000 – 5,000 took to the streets of Boston, shutting down parts of the city as part of a protest organized by #BlackLivesMatter Boston (@BLM_Boston).

Protestors marched from Dudley Square, opposite Area B2 precinct, down Melnea Cass to South Bay House of Corrections, shutting down the onramp to I-93. Protesters chanted, “We See You” and “Black Lives Matter” as incarcerated Bostonians cheered along and made signs of support for Mike Brown with tape on prison windows.

Protest1A growing number of people are making the connection between extrajudicial killings and institutional policies regarding housing, education, governance, transportation, drug policy, healthcare and beyond. The story of Michael Brown, Jr. is not an aberration. It’s the status quo. It’s systemic. And enough is enough.
