Sara Oaklander

Business Development & Communications Manager

Sara (she/her) considers herself to have had a career as a utility player in Boston’s social sector with over 30 years experience working in a variety of settings, always attending to the inner workings of organizations while seeking to maximize efficiency and impact while building community and fostering collaboration.

Sara was delighted to find her way to IISC in 2004 where she discovered the joys and challenges of working alongside highly competent, collaborative colleagues who share a fierce commitment to social justice and are endlessly learning and growing together. Over her years with IISC, Sara has provided content and project management services to clients, supported the work of leadership in a variety of ways, and worked on myriad internal projects in the image of a true organizational generalist. Sara is now engaged in the development of new business at IISC as she responds to the steady flow of compelling inquiries that come our way from people across the country seeking to build capacity for social change. She also oversees IISC’s external communications.

Sara holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and a Master of Public and Private Management from Yale University. When not working, Sara can usually be found hanging out with family and friends, riding her bike, searching for treasures at yard sales, and exploring the endless array of unique experiences and interesting nooks and crannies of Somerville where she now lives with her husband and two kitties, Daisy and Darwin.
