Sandra Herrera
Communications & Marketing Manager
As IISC’s Communications & Marketing Manager, Sandra Herrera (she/her/ella) leads the development and execution of communications and marketing strategies for our national nonprofit. Passionate about crafting engaging, values-driven content, Sandra leverages her work to advocate for social justice and equity.
Born and raised in a low-income BIPOC community in Brooklyn, New York, Sandra is the youngest of four daughters to parents from Mexico and Puerto Rico. Her early experiences shaped her deep awareness of societal inequities and fueled a lifelong commitment to creating safe spaces and advocating for racial and social justice.
Sandra’s professional journey began at age 16 in retail and customer service. She later earned a BA in Media Studies and certifications in UX Design and Marketing Analytics. Her career spans roles at a leading real estate website and the nonprofit sector, where she has refined her design and storytelling skills, challenged traditional marketing practices rooted in white supremacy, and led with fearless empathy.
As a dedicated community supporter and “side hustle” enthusiast, Sandra has worked as a freelance web designer and marketing consultant for over five years, primarily supporting local BIPOC-owned businesses. Her love for animals led her to become certified in TNR (Trap, Neuter, Return) in 2017, aiding Brooklyn’s stray cats and occasionally rescuing and fostering those in need of homes.
Outside of work, Sandra finds joy in spending time with her family, including her cat and dog, and her close-knit friend circle of inspiring women. Sandra also enjoys being a plant mom, eating tamales and arroz con gandules, and losing herself in any book by Silvia Moreno-Garcia.
